21. Adapting to Change with Hockey Entrepreneur Jaclyn Hawkins

Jaclyn “Hawk” Hawkins is a hockey player turned coach turned entrepreneur.

As an athlete, Hawk won a national championship in high school with the CT Polar Bears and played NCAA Division 1 hockey at the University of Connecticut, setting NCAA records and winning awards. Additionally, she played hockey professionally in Europe and played with Team Canada.

Hawk started her business, Women’s Hockey Life, in 2010 as she was finishing her professional career. On returning stateside, Hawk spent time in hockey operations before joining her alma matter, UConn, as a coach. After three years coaching, and giving birth to twins, Hawk decided to turn Women’s Hockey Life into her full-time venture.

Women’s Hockey Life empowers women and girls in hockey and promotes and supports the game at all levels. Hawk shares the ups and downs of running your own business. It’s clear her passion for the game, and for the women and girls in the game, is what fuels her work.

We talk about:

  • The importance of perseverance
  • Adapting to change
  • Having a growth mindset
