On today’s episode, I’m talking with Dr. Catherine Logan, a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon.
Dr. Logan spent her early career as a Physical Therapist before deciding to go back to medical school where she ultimately went into orthopedic surgery and completed a sports medicine fellowship. It’s not always an easy decision to decide to go back to school for another decade, and Catherine shares important advice about how and why she ultimately made that choice. Since then, Catherine has started her own practice, is a team physician for US Ski and Snowboard and Head League Physician for Premier Lacrosse League, and is on the Executive Board of the Chill Foundation. On top of all that, she manages to contribute to lay publications like SHAPE magazine and has her own podcast, The Sports Doc Podcast.
Dr. Logan earned her MD (and an MBA at the same time!) from Tufts. She completed her Ortho residency at Harvard Combined Orthpaedic Residency where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Orthopaedic Journal of the Harvard Medical School. She then completed her sports medicine fellowship at Steadman Phillipon Research Institute/The Steadman Clinic.
In addition to her work on the executive board for the Chill Foundation, we talk about the non-profit Dr Logan founded while a first year medical student at Tufts, Team Cathedral Project.
We talk about:
- What to consider when thinking about a career change
- Surrounding yourself with the right people who will push you to evolve
- The cancer diagnosis that caused Catherine to change her perspective and focus on what’s important
