45. Know Your Why with Exercise Physiologist and Public Health Specialist Nicole Batista

Nicole Batista is the founder and President of the CT Chapter of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). She is a certified exercise physiologist and focuses her work on encouraging health and wellness through prevention efforts.

Nicole spent several years working with Special Olympics Connecticut as a Coordinator of Health and Wellness and truly building that program from the ground up. She has also worked as recreation program staff for Chapel Haven Schleifer Center and most recently was a Community Health Educator for the City of New Haven.

In addition to her work with both the national SOPHE organization, Nicole has been an active member of the national and New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine. Her work has earned her multiple awards including the Society for Public Health Education’s Horizon Award and New England ACSM’s Donna Murphy Scholarship.

Nicole earned her Bachelors in Exercise Science from Central Connecticut State University and a Masters in Public Health from Southern Connecticut State University.
