Introducing Rebecca Breslow
Today I’m talking sports medicine physician and Head of Content for gWell Dr. Rebecca Breslow about letting your career evolve with you.
Her Career Journey
After undergrad at Yale, Rebecca went on to study the history of art at the Courtauld Institue in the UK. After completing medical school at Harvard, she began her residency in internal medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and chose to pursue a fellowship in allergy and immunology. Rebecca took time away from medicine to care for her young kids. She began an injury prevention business geared towards runners that led her back to medicine and a second fellowship in sports medicine. Now, as the Head of Content for gWell, a digital health and wellness application powered by genomics, Rebecca has found an outlet for all of her interests.
Letting Your Career Evolve With You
Staring in as an undergrad, Rebecca never took the most direct path. Instead, she’s allowed her values to lead the way and has let her career evolve with her. Rebecca found that with each pivot, she wasn’t starting from scratch, but instead bringing all of her prior experiences.
Inside this episode:
- Rebecca is glad she didn’t go directly to medical school and instead gained experience that helped her decide this was the best path for her.
- She’s had a circuitous career, but this allows her to bring all of her experiences together to think outside the box and find resilience when times are tough.
- Rebecca took time away from practicing medicine when her kids were young. Driven by her own interest in preventing her own injuries while running, she learned everything she could and began an injury prevention studio.
- Unafraid of change and ready to embrace the uncomfortable, Rebecca took yet another turn when she pursued a sports medicine fellowship.
- Her focus on the process rather than the result led her pivot recent from practicing medicine to her current role as the Head of Content for gWell, where she can help share information on the many facets of sports medicine with a wide audience.
- Rebecca has taken full advantage of the opportunities within medicine to carve out interesting work.
- She advises women that they can have everything they want in their career, they just might not be able to have it at the same time.
