30. “But Wait, There’s More” with Director of Sport Psychology Angel Brutus

Angel Brutus, PhD is an Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Counseling and Sports Psychology for Mississippi State University Athletics.

Prior to her work with MSU, Dr. Brutus had her own private practice in clinical and sport performance counseling called Synergistic Solutions, which she continues to operate in a new way, focused on mentorship for those looking to get into the field of sport psychology.

Angel is a former coordinator for the Association for Applied Sport Psychology‘s Race and Ethnicity in Sport special interest group and co-chairs their nominations/leadership development committee.

She is the volunteer Executive Director for the Grant D Knowledge Foundation and was previously on the Playmakers board to support the initiative of the Playworks Georgia chapter which empowers children with play.

Dr. Brutus received her Doctorate of Psychology in Sport-Performance with a dissertation titled “Minority, Student, and Athlete: Understanding the multiracial division I intercollegiate athlete’s ascribed meanings of the experience of stereotype threat.” She has a Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology. She shares her truly unique education and career journey in today’s episode.
