122. Crafting Your Brand with Sports Marketing Executive Brette Sadler

Introducing Brette Sadler

Today I’m talking to sports marketing executive Brette Sadler about crafting your brand.

Her Career Journey

Brette earned her BS in public relations at the University of Miami. After college, she began working with the Florida Panthers, working her way up from selling season tickets on commission to becoming the Senior Director of Marketing Partnerships. She then worked for the agency Octagon before making the move to Las Vegas to work with the UFC and later MGM. Brette is currently the Vice President at PRP, a sports management and corporate consulting firm. She is also the co-founder of the Las Vegas chapter of Women in Sports and Entertainment (WISE).

Crafting Your Brand

Brette’s experience working with teams, leagues, and agencies has given her a keen understanding of the relationships between a brand’s identity and the partnerships they make. She knows that crafting a brand is just as important for individuals. Over the years, Brette has made a name for herself and maintained relationships both with her mentors and her larger network, so that she’s the one they call when they needed someone who will get the job done.

Inside this episode:

  • Brette knew early on that she loved working in the business side of sports. As an athlete, she knew the passion and work that went into game day and appreciated working with other like-minded people.
  • She knew that she had to get her foot in the door to keep working her way up in sports. Brette took a job with the newly formed Flordia Panthers and benefitted from her pre-existing relationships with Miami businesses.
  • Brette pivoted to working on the agency side of the business in order to keep developing and learning new skills. There, she had access to robust research that she was able to incorporate into her work while she improved her presentation and writing skills.
  • Between roles, LinkedIn was her lifeline. She kept up connections and maintained relationships. She advises everyone to have their own personal “board of directors” with a chairman, 5-6 board members, as well as a broader network of experts in their field to both draw from and support.
  • Brette started a Las Vegas chapter of WISE because there wasn’t an existing incubator for sports professionals in the city, which forced organizations to either hire outside the field or outside of the area. She’s now helping to shape the next generation and making sure they get the hands-on experience that will make them successful.
