Today I’m talking to athletic trainer Amanda Williams.
Amanda is a clinical athletic trainer working in a physician practice. She always knew that she wanted to be an athletic trainer and studied athletic training at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She then earned a masters in applied kinesiology from the University of Minnesota.
Her first jobs pushed her to consider the needs of active people of all ages, not just the usual high school or college-aged athletes that many athletic trainers serve. When she was ready to take on a new challenge, she applied and reapplied for a position as a clinical athletic trainer. Now in that role at Mayo Clinic, she works as part of a team in a physician’s practice seeing patients and providing care. She also serves as the Athletic Training Student clinical coordinator.
Amanda is on a mission to spread the word about the benefits of athletic trainers in the clinic and make sure that everyone, from the public to fellows completing their training, understands her role.
We talk about:
- Finding the job that’s the perfect fit
- Asking hard questions as the interviewee
- Defining your mission and vision
- Saying no to things that don’t serve you
- Being able to define your job
- Taking charge of your own narrative
