Today I’m talking to career coach Gladys Garcia Neroda.
Gladys earned her BA in communications with a minor in business from Cal State Fullerton. She graduated college with a sense of clarity and a plan to work in public relations. This lasted less than a year as she learned that she needed to do work that matched her values.
She found fulfilling work in social work and later as a job developer, where she helped others develop their job skills and prepare for interviews. With the help and guidance of her mentors, she also grew into leadership roles.
She eventually found her way to Coaching Corps, where she worked to improve the health, educational, and social outcomes for kids living in struggling communities through the power of service and sports. She held many roles in the organization including chief of staff and chief program and technology officer and found a deep appreciation for the ways kids can benefit from sports.
Gladys left Coaching Corps for a year-long personal sabbatical where she learned the power of defining what it means to be yourself. Her self-reflection led her to new experiences and gave her time to set the framework for her current businesses, including her work as a consultant and integral coach as well as crafting rosaries.
We talk about:
- Being yourself to yourself
- Asking if your dreams really belong to you or someone else
- Asking for help when you need it
- Acknowledging unhealthy relationships with work
- Trusting our mentors
- Passing on our knowledge
