43. Mentorship with USOPC Director of Mental Health Services Jess Bartley

Dr. Jess Bartley is the Director of Mental Health Services for the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. In this newly created role, Dr. Bartley is responsible for the development and implementation of mental health services and programming for Team USA. Jess previously consulted for USA Karate and USA Track & Field.

Prior to this new job with the USOPC, Jess was a behavioral health consultant and staff psychologist for the University of Denver as well as a clinical assistant professor in sport and performance psychology. And before University of Denver, Jess was a clinical psychologist at UNC Chapel Hill.

Dr. Bartley is active within the American Psychological Association (APA) – Division 47 (Society of Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology Division) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). She has been on APA – Division 47 and AASP executive committees, leadership committees, and was awarded the Student Practitioner and the Early Career Practitioner Awards from AASP and the Early Career Professional Award from APA – Division 47.

Jess has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with emphasis in sport and performance psychology from the University of Denver and she is also a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. Jess earned a Masters in sport and performance psychology at the University of Denver as well as a Masters in Social Work at UT-Austin. She did her Bachelors at UT-Austin as well in both government and sociology.

Dr. Bartley shares the mentors who helped her along the way, the interrelationship of mentors, colleagues, and friends, and how to communicate with a potential mentor.
